Šumava mountains: An odyssey through the land of hills and schnapps

The last weekend in July was marked by hills and schnapps. We went to Javornice, specifically to the local distillery building, from there we set out for trips on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

From Javornice it is a short walk to Prachatice, so it is really close to the Šumava hills and we experienced the foreboding mountains for the first fast-paced afternoon ride around.

We took our main route on Saturday morning. We left the foothills behind and set out for the Sumava Mountains. Despite the rain, which did not make the journey around the canal any easier, we rode through all the top spots; the Kašperské mountains, Modrava, Kvilda, and Horní Vltavice.

After Sunday’s “trip” to Protivin, David, the distillery’s owner, took us to the bowels of his kingdom. The new distillery, which is at the heart of the original village building, offers unexpected vistas, hidden details, and a perfect symbiosis between new technology and old craftsmanship.
