We leave exactly as planned, it's 7 pm. Punctuality is called for in such situations. Nervous vibrations dampen the frames of our steel bikes, they only stop when we move away from the meeting place. At dusk, the first view to the north unfolds through the chimneys.

The darkness does not surprise us and comes quickly. The first stop is in Roudnice; we are thirsty. Then Úštěk, it's not going well, we are in a black cloud and it’s unknown if the road has a slope. Garmin shows the grade percentage; we climb for about an hour before one of the best descents one could experience in the dark begins, the white road paint cuts through the darkness, gives us peace and determines the speed of the turn. It’s hardly the middle of the night. We call in the morning and look forward to the first warm rays.

The sun does not rise in the morning. The sky is gray, black in the west. Instead of the sun, lightning flashes. An open gas station and coffee. We ride out of the storm, but it starts to rain again at the lakes, then it pours like a can. We stop at a dilapidated factory, 320 km done, for dry merino and a power nap.

The downpour is stopping, but we’re not far from the rainstorm and we follow it from the reserve for another 80 kilometers, then we finally turn west, to Berlin with the wind. The eastern suburbs of Berlin are endless. A sign for Tempelhof-- we’re on the right track, where Klara, juice and Radler await us.

The water now flows from the shower and is more pleasant than ever. The state of complete physical exhaustion intensifies the feeling of shared joy. We won, we achieved the unimaginable.
